Phenotypic Expression in Varietal Cross of Cucumis melo var . makuwa Makino . cv . Eunchun and Sungwhan (2) Rind color , fruit quality , and Isozymes

Abstract
The melon fruits obtained from the hybrid of Eunchun ¡¿ Sungwhan were analyzed to compare the rind pigments, fruit quality, and isozymes to the parents. The rind color of the hybrid was resembled to Sungwhan. Pigments, such as carotenoids (lutein, violaxanthin, carotene) and chlorophylls, were observed in Sungwhan, whereas carotene was not detected in the F©û hybrid. Little chlorophyll was observed, but more lutein was found in Eunchun. In soluble solid contents (SSC), Eunchun was higher than Sungwhan and the F©û hybrid was similar to Eunchun. Fructose, glucose and sucrose were the same tendency to SSC. In total ascorbic acids, the F©û hybrid was higher than Sungwhan, but lower than Eunchun. Significantly higher amino acids were detected in Eunchun than those of the other one. No differences were observed among the entries in electrophoretic band patterns of isozyme (PGI, PGM, 6-PGD and MDH) in cotyledons.
